Bill Burr went against his wife’s wishes and made a guest appearance on this morning’s episode of The View.
When the comedian joined the co-hosts at the Hot Topics table, he told them that his wife was “freaking out” over his visit to the daytime talk show — but not because she was excited for him.
“She was like, ‘Who the hell booked you on that show? You say all this dumb stuff about women, don’t go on that show,’” Burr revealed.
Joy Behar, however, assured him that no one at the table was offended by his stand-up routines. “Well, we’re not snowflakes around here and some of us are comedians, so we get it because that’s your thing,” she said.
She then kicked things off by asking if Burr was funny as a child.
“I had my moments,” he said. “I understood the pecking order of high school. I wasn’t a nerd but I wasn’t cool. If there were too many football players and good-looking chicks in the room, I wouldn’t make my jokes. But if it was more of the regular people then I was the class clown.”
As they continued their chat, Sara Haines wondered what has changed the most about his comedy over the years.
“I got married and had kids so that was the big thing,” Burr said. “Probably more my home life changed and I realized my anger and everything was ruining peoples’ days more than I thought. So I had to work on that.”

The comedian said he’s been “working” on himself a lot, noting that the “water flows one way in a relationship.”
“It always goes towards the guy to work on themselves,” he said, drawing confused reactions from the co-hosts.
“There’s always something like, ‘You know, you’re doing this. You gotta work on this.’ But that sort of constructive criticism doesn’t seem to come around the other way to the woman,” Burr said, before playfully adding, “This is why my wife didn’t want me to do the show.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
